Kennecott Copper Mine Musuem

Dave and I took the boys to visit the Kennecott Copper Mine Museum. The Kennecott Mine is the largest excavation in the world, can be seen from outerspace and I can honestly say "one big freaking hole in the ground!!" It is H-U-G-E. And while you are there you can see all the HUGE dumptrucks taking dirt to different parts of the excavation. You honestly do not realize how big the dumptrucks are until you see them next to a large semi and realize the semi looks dwarfed next to the dumptruck.

This is one of the actual tires used on the dumptrucks. They cost about $25,000 per tire (according to their plaque) and there are six of them on each truck.

Inside the museum in front of the Olympic medals. The mine provided most of the material to create the Salt Lake Olympic medals for the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Park City.

The entire wall showed all of the vehicles and dumptrucks used at the mine. Connor and Preston were in heaven with all of the "Tonka Trucks!"
